The week in music – January 15

Here’s a look back at our favourite music this week

Xiu Xiu – Jenny GoGoPRC327-hires

The experimental group have dropped a single from their upcoming album FORGET, and it’s as emotionally wrenching as you’d expect. Watch the video for Jenny GoGo and feel a bit sorry for yourself here

Slowdive – doc132-slowdive-digi-starroving-1600Star Roving

Legendary Shoegazers, Dream-Poppers and guitar-pedal ethusiasts Slowdive return with their first release in 22 years. They’re not breaking any shoegaze envelopes, but considering they pretty much invented the envelope, it hardly matters. Listen to it here

Sleaford Mods – B.H.S.pcnckdr2

The angriest (and funniest) group to come out of the UK since the Thatcher era have a pop at professional wanker, Phillip Green in this track from their new album, English Tapas, out March 3rd. Watch the video for it here

The xx – I See Youthe-xx-i-see-you

Indie Pop minimalists The xx have released their highly anticipated (and not very minimalist) album, I See You this week. Click here to give it a listen.

Ariel Pink, ariel-pink-and-weyes-blood-myths-002Weyes Blood – Tears on Fire

Ariel Pink’s 2014 album Pom pom was a perfect blend of parody and sincere appreciation
for the music of the past. He’s got an album coming out “sometime 2017”, but in the meanwhile he’s collaborated on an EP with Weyes Blood, and you can listen to the first single here
